Some days it feels like you have control of the outcome of your life, and some days it feels like the end is already written.
Between Yesterday & Tomorrow is the story of a young, working class married couple. Ruby recently finished night school and works as a massage therapist to pay the mortgage on their new home. Her husband Kris is a brooding, injured army vet who leans on his family for support.
The film begins when Kris returns home from war. He’s been discharged, because of a grenade wound that left him without a leg.
Determined to get him back to health and patch the cracks in their future, Ruby takes him to their military-appointed lawyer. But, according to witnesses, Kris’s injury was self-inflicted and therefore dishonorable - meaning they will lose everything: veteran’s pay, benefits - and he could serve jail time.
Now, she must prove her husband’s sanity to the world, even though she begins to doubt it. She begs him to tell the truth about what happened. He struggles to describe the vague threat he saw in the desert which caused him to pull the pin.
He explains his visions to her: crawling, brain-shaped creatures. He sees them seeping out of everyone: creeping parasites that control our every move.
Horrified, Ruby presses on to protect the future they had planned. She enlists the close help of their family doctor Gavin, who supplies additional medication under the table. Kris is suspicious of the relationship Gavin and Ruby have developed.
He begins to believe that they are conspiring to poison him. He stops taking his medicine and writes a letter to their lawyer describing a murder plot.
After weeks of medical and legal bills, Ruby receives a foreclosure notice from the bank. She secretly has Gavin take over the mortgage, and Kris finds out - confirming his paranoid fears that the parasites have taken over his wife and friend.
When he violently confronts Ruby about this it sets off a desperate chain of events as she tries to undo the damage he’s done to their future.
